The end is only the beginning
A few months ago was my Youtube channel hit with a fraudulent copyright claim. I had released a railway meme video a few days earlier and I guess I had ruffled someone's feathers with it since they filed a copyright claim despite the video falling under fair use according to Youtube's own rules. There was no point in fighting it, I did not even get the chance. I either could remove the video on my own accord to prevent the strike or Youtube would delete the video for me in 7 days. I had no option to appeal, or do anything else. Either destroy my own work now or destroy it later.
Despite my objections to this did I decide to honor the request and deleted the video(though not after sending a rather polite but strongly worded e-mail to the claimant in question. They were not too happy about that but if I am honest am I far beyond the point of caring about the feelings of people like this). However this incident did highlight something important to me. Youtube was not reliable a a platform to be on. Especially not as a smaller channel. I had stopped making serious videos for a few years now but it was still a repository of my old work. Who knows if something from my past came back to haunt me. It was an unacceptable risk I was unwilling to make so I did something drastic. I deleted all of my videos from Youtube. This was a painful process because although my work is amateurish is it something I have put a lot of effort and energy in and throwing that all away was not something I liked doing.
And that kind of brings me to the subject of this blog entry. Namely the future of this blog and a shifting of trends. Even back during my video essay days was this blog always kind of an appendage to my other work. My writings were never really popular and I did not quite get the discourse going in the way that I wanted. As I winded down making video essays did my output on this blog also slow down. Occasionally I would either write something or post photos but for the most part was it a semi-abandoned project. I think the time has come for me to make a decision on what I want to do with this blog. And that decision is unfortunately that I will have to abandon it.
I have several reasons for this decision. There is of course the issue that I never quite knew what to do with this blog. I started it with the intent to write about politics here but as the political discourse turns more and more depressing did that get harder and harder, to the point that I flat out could not do it anymore without severely damaging my mental health. Other ideas I've had to use it either as a platform for fiction or for posting my photos did not really pan out either. Besides that, however do I have another reason for wanting to ditch this blog as well.
I don't know if people have noticed but big platforms have been shitting the bed pretty badly lately. There is of course the whole saga of how Elon Musk bought Twitter and ran it into the ground(almost impressive considering Twitter was not exactly a great platform to begin with). But also other social media platforms and chat clients are clamping down, either pushing AI/LLM features no one asked for and actively make things worse or adding dubious age verification stuff that is gonna screw over minority groups. That last one in particular is of importance to me since a platform I use a lot(Discord) has recently announced that they are gonna implement this as well(and probably push me off the platform). Couple all of this with the fact that our governments are only turning more authoritarian and with big tech companies more then willing to assist them with this endeavor has led me to the conclusion that perhaps I should jump ship from big platforms sooner rather then later.
Part of me has always known that this stuff was inevitable. I spent most of the 2010's drifting from platform to platform so I am no stranger to burning a bridge behind me. What I did not expect however was this rapid rise of Authoritarianism espoused by Western governments and their tech industry allies to force me to do so. Which brings me back to my blog. This platform is Blogger, Blogger is owned by Google. You do the math. I think our big hubris in this regard was that we figured these big tech companies would always be helpful however in hindsight is it not surprising that the system of capitalism would push these companies towards serving the incoming surveillance state and throw everyone else under the bus. But you know, hindsight is 20/20 and all that. In any case do I not blame people for getting on these platforms back in the day since I did the same.
I will not be as rigorous with this blog as I was with my Youtube channel. I am not gonna delete any entries or delete the blog as a whole. Instead I will just leave everything up since I don't think there is anything in this blog that could get me into trouble. This blog is gonna be set to non-active so I at the very least will have a way back in should the need arise.
I will also not leave you empty-handed. I know there was some disappointment from my friends that I had deleted all of my Youtube videos so I have spent the last few months attempting to upload most of my work to archive dot org. Not all of my work is there(I have not uploaded the sketches that I think are bad or have aged poorly, nor have I uploaded the voice overs of blog articles I have written since I don't think they add anything). Considering this my final parting gift for you all.
You can find the video's: here
If you want to keep following me, I post erotica and 3d models on furaffinity at: https://www.furaffinity.net/user/feline-biologist
I also upload the same erotica on: https://archiveofourown.org/users/PimCybercat If that is more of your fancy.
I want to thank you all for reading my writings and I am hoping to see you all in some other place. I don't see this so much as the end but rather as a new beginning.
Thank you.
Sincerely:
- Pim
